The Temple Mount is the most important archaeological site in Jerusalem. Here, the First Temple and the Second Temple of Judaism stood, in the present the compound is the location of Muslim sanctuaries (Haram es-Sharif), and the mountain is the subject of Jesus' prominent prophecies. But what do we know archaeologically about this complex? Unfortunately, the access to the Temple's archaeology is highly restricted, but testimonies of pioneer explorers in the 19th century combined with Mishna, Tosefta, and Josephus' book allow us to start navigating this labyrinth. Where was the Temple situated? How to put together the puzzle of corridors and forbidden passages which were documented below the surface? This talk will take the audience into the archaeological secrets of the Temple Mount.
