What is Antisemitism?
Undoubtedly, antisemitism is making a sad comeback in the West. Politicians openly express antisemitic views, newspapers publish antisemitic cartoons, and BDS campaigners assault Jewish students on campuses. However, many people justify these actions as legitimate "criticism of Israel", which has nothing to do – in their view – with antisemitism. One can indeed be critical of Israel's actions or oppose the policy of its government without being antisemitic. The question is, where does lie the boundary? This talk focuses on the challenge to define antisemitism and the struggle in the international fora to adopt an agreed definition. The audience will receive practical tools for understanding the discourse and identifying problematic motifs.
