Explore Israel's archaeology with Dr. David Gurevich. We offer a variety of study courses and seminars focusing on various periods of ancient Israel. The precise plan will be developed per request. Typical options:
- Archaeological field-trip in Jerusalem [4 days] - Each day of the seminar is dedicated to a different period in the history of the city, starting from the Bronze Age and Iron Age till the story of the 19th century scientific explorations of the city. The trip includes tours to unique sites in Jerusalem of each period and an introductory lecture. Optional: visit to an on-going archaeological dig or even participation in the archaeological sifting for several hours.
- Biblical archaeology [2-4 days] - A seminar which follows the current debates of the Biblical archaeology in Israel. We will visit the key sites such as: Jerusalem, Tel Megiddo, Tel Dan, and Tel-Arad. We will discuss the theories on how ancient Israelites emerged and explore some of the less known sites (eg. Izbet Sarta, the place of the Biblical Eben Ha'ezer).
- Archaeology of the New Testament [3-4 days] - This study-trip is focused on the archaeology behind the texts. As the background, we will explore Herod the Great and his period by visiting Herodium. We will visit Qumran and discuss the story of the Yahad group as well as their sectarian literature which influenced the Christian scriptures. On the trip to the north we will visit Magdala with its unique 1st century synagogue, and in Sepphoris will walk on the streets of Galilee's major city of the 1st century and explore its mosaics.
Optional: Guest lectures of leading experts.
